It’s Been Awhile

I hope that song gets stuck in your head.

I look at a lot of fashion blogs, as you might know. The more I look at them, the more I realize that I find real fashionable stuff really ugly. Like, heinous. A good example of this can be seen on 14 or 15 year old Tavi’s blog, Style Rookie. The young thing has been posting about fashion for several years and is well known in the fashion industry. Designers send her things all the time. I think her outfits are pretty wack. I just don’t understand her taste. I’m all for someone wearing whatever they want, I just am surprised when said outfit is considered considered awesome by many others.

And there’s even a blog called The Man Repeller that is done by a woman named Leandra Medine. She buys really expensive clothes from top designers (or is given them?) and admits that they’re fashionable, not attractive. I know fashion is supposed to be like art, but I always assumed it was meant to make you look good. I’m not alone, right?

Granted this is coming from a girl that owns acid washed jeans.

Some other trends I dislike:

High waisted short shorts, harem pants, peep toe heel boots…

How about you? What are you hatin’ on lately?

There’s been a lot of talk about the trend of Nude shoes and apparel and how it’s racist. Perhaps it’s because I’m a white person, but I think it’s a little overboard to say that calling something pale peach/light brownish “nude” is racist. It’s hard to say what I would think if I was on the other end of the color spectrum. Am I being insensitive? What say you?

If that color isn’t called nude, what should it be called? Perhaps just Pale? In one of those links above, they use the term Champagne, which actually is a really good description. It’s used for car colors, why not for this instance as well?

But what I would love to do, is just get rid of the damn color altogether. It’s ugly and I’m not a fan. Celebrities have been wearing them all over the place. The positive side of them, supposedly, is that they lengthen your legs. To that, I say Psh!

Don’t you think a different color shoe would make this better?

I’m sick of you, shiny champagne colored shoe!

Ok, my little rant is over. I leave you with this:

Love love

i kinda love this:

Like love love. Want. And I don’t even *do* strapless dresses. I think it’s the green that’s making me fall for it so hard. Also, I kinda have a thing for see through material on top of an opaque. But Scarlett’s looking a little like my old Jem doll, amiright?

And yes, I had this exact doll (unfortunately, the picture no longer works…so you’ll just have to remember, or just not know what I’m talking about). My little neighbor girl got it for me for a birthday. I remember those crazy pink tights and that awesome dress. Awesome in quotes, btw…

And if you haven’t seen the God-awful thing Lindsay Lohan was wearing than click here. Or, you know, spare your eyes…It’s just as bad as this. Or this. Ok, apologies to LiLo, it’s definitely not as bad as that last one…

So one of the fashion trends (an old one, actually, but it’s still floating about) I have a real dislike for is “power shoulders”, aka shoulder pads. I liked them in the 80s when I was an impressionable 6th grader and I loved all things Limited Too. But when I look back at pictures of myself, I’m like what the eff??

I just don’t understand the attraction of looking like a football player. It’s funny that in fashion, you’re always trying to create something that’s not there: if you have broad shoulders, you try to narrow. no neck? wear a v-neck to lengthen. too long of neck? wear boatneck. short legs? wear a short skirt or a shoe with point and that doesn’t cover the top part of your foot. Anything you have is considered bad and you are told to do the opposite to hide your flaws.

Which brings me to this: When has anyone thought “hm, I wish I could have super high/broad shoulders?” When?

I especially dislike this kind of alien-like shoulder pad.

Gwyneth Paltrow recently wore a similar jacket

What’s worse than shoulder pads? Shoulder pad. One. Ein. Solo pad.

The one shouldered dress
Granted, there’s not much pad there, just the illusion from the ruffle.

Kim Kardashian loves sportin’ the one shoulder pad dress.

I will end with something one shouldered that I do like. Did you know that Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice) has her own collection and that’s it’s not all bad?? Some of it is quite likeable. I’ve heard differing opinions on this dress, but I think it’s pretty cute and it looked quite good on Cameron Diaz. I think I would prefer it a bit shorter, but other than that, cute!

Sometimes when I’m gazing online at clothes and shoes, I get really befuddled. I mean, who allows certain items to be made? Why aren’t there more cute, inoffensive stuff out there?

Who said they wanted to wear a gyno gown out in public? I believe if you wore this to your annual, they probably would tell you there’s no reason to change. In that respect it reminds me of Zulema’s sweater dress from the second season of Project Runway, which I couldn’t find a picture of for the life of me.

And really when I give this a good look it’s not allllll that skimpy. If it was tight fitting it wouldn’t be so scandalous-looking. In general, it’s just an ill-fitting dress. Can I also tell you how much I dislike these shoes? The dress is quite adorable and I would totally love to have it in my possession. The shoes distract though. I have definitely noticed the crazy shoe trend lately. Extra material is very in. Oh, you want some examples? Sure, why not?

Do you get what I’m saying now? Are you as fascinated by these as I am? I ask because really that’s why I wanted this blog in the first place. I see stuff like this and I feel the need to reach out and tell someone else “hey, these exist!! holy shit, right??” Crow and I have a pretty similar taste in things and she’s into fashion, so I’m always happy when she’s across from me at the coffee shop so I can show someone who cares, but sometimes she’s not there (sad face). This is so I can tell her and you! Thanks for being there for me.
